West Mendip Wander

I’m sat here, itching to tell you about my walk on the Quantocks last Friday but instead, I’ve decided to write about another adventure. Largely because it follows the chronological sequence of events; partly because I’m frustrated that Flickr (owned by Yahoo) have recently overhauled their website and so, getting the image URL from specific photos is currently more of a chore than ever!

The first hurdle, straight across the road from the car park!

Fewer photos is working better for me at the moment. But, having just completed two walks over the Easter weekend, you’ll be able to catch up soon, regardless of how long it takes. This walk across the Mendips took place about 10 days ago.

On Domestic Abuse…

This post is most certainly off-topic. But, this is my blog after all. I’ve been ‘umming’ and ‘ahhhing’ for the last week about whether or not I should post it here and it’s taken me until now (22.30 on Friday night) to be able to sit down and to formulate this. Domestic abuse is a subject that’s very close to my heart. I’ll only go as far as to say that I’ve seen too much of it in my brief lifetime. One thing I am certain of is that there is no reason for it and, even where there is an excuse, well, I think you have to then ask yourself what the true definition of that word is because it cannot form an answer that would stand up in a court of law.

I’m going to write my response to recent revelations within the media as to the true nature of Charles Saatchi‘s character within a relationship with Nigella Lawson. If you do not wish to read on, that’s absolutely fine and I promise to make my next post about working with wood. 😉

Back Online!

It’s exactly three-weeks to the day since my last post. After moving house and starting a new job though, I’m finally settling in to my new home and, most importantly today, I’m back online with an internet connection! You see, without a landline (it’s a very rural area!), good old ADSL just isn’t an option and, although I have had a satellite dish installed (only for Freesat and for the local news, instead of Welsh!), those broadband packages start at £25 per month, plus the cost of a special modem, which isn’t cheap! Also, there’s a great divide of opinion on the ‘net as to how reliable satellite broadband actually ease (a quick Google search reveals many negative comments). So, while I know mobile broadband is going to have its own issues, it remains to be the most affordable option I have available.
