Bring on the 20 Miler!!

Tomorrow, I’ll be walking the full 20-mile stretch of the Circuit of Bath route for the second year running. Today was a mainly about warming up, having not been on a reasonable walk for two-weeks now.

It may seem excessive for some but as I regular walker of over 10 miles, I’m capable and I’ve found in the past that a short walk the day before can help to prepare your body for the hardship that follows. Today, I chose to return to Pensford.

Quantock Greenway North (Part 2)

I apologise for wait. My laptop’s keyboard suddenly turned erratic just over a week ago and as certain keys had lost their function, one by one, I’ve only just this evening gotten around to fitting the replacement keyboard. This will be the conclusion to my first Quantocks walk. In the mean time, I’m also behind on other walks that have happened in the time since, not to mention all the other issues and topics I’ve been wanting to write about while I’ve struggled to even load a successful laptop boot.

We concluded Part 1 with a lunch stop at Triscombe Stone. Just a nudge beyond the halfway point, the walk continues clockwise around the western edge of the northern hills and it’s on we march towards Bicknoller.

Vodamoan

Today, I’d like to have a bit of a rant about Vodafone and 3G service in the West Country. A few weeks before Christmas, I finally succumbed and upgraded my old Nokia model to a smart phone. To be precise; I ignored the wave of the big ‘i’ in Apple and went instead with for the Samsung Galaxy SII; an apparent rival for the iPhone 4S. Samsung’s SIII has been available for a little while now, along with Apple’s iPhone 5. I spent £200 on my model and that was in a refurbished state from en eBay seller… I do believe it works out cheaper in the long run (my monthly sim-only contract costs just £10.50) and I can’t imagine that the very latest models leave any of its predecessors in a permanent state of redundancy.

Snowfall

It feels like a long time has passed since we had this amount of snow fall in this part of the UK. There were threats and warnings that we might have seen a few flakes last week but, it only landed elsewhere. Some were sceptical as to whether anything would happen this time. I kept my hopes up though; seeing the forecast on the local news of how one white blanket would cover the entire west country area filled me with optimism…

As soon as I got up around 6am, I was greeted and delighted by the sight you can see above; captured rather poorly by my smart phone‘s camera, which doesn’t particularly like the dark (and, I don’t like flash photography so, we can never agree).
