Burrow Mump Walk

Saturday 7th January 2017

It’s interesting that I come to write about this walk in this moment, as I’m contemplating a return to the same area this coming weekend, with a few added miles.

Burrow Mump is best-known for its iconic church ruin atop the mound. South-east of Bridgwater but deep within the Somerset Levels.

Chew Valley Waterfall Walk

Sunday 1st January 2017

My first walk of the year began at the western edge of Chew Valley Lake, where car parking is free and small numbers flock to admire and throw bread at the native birds.

I arrived here in search of an elusive waterfall… Many miles far from the Brecon Beacons! Hoping to find a trig point along the way.

Mendip Hills – December 2016

Friday 30th December 2016

This would be my final proper walk for 2016 and I’d decided to keep it as a local one.

I headed for the Burrington Ham car park towards the top of Burrington Combe and, with an early start close to 9am, I was soon heading off, over the road to cross Black Down.

Blagdon Walk – December 2016

Tuesday 20th December 2016

Each time I entertain the thought of doing a walk that includes the village of Blagdon and its lake, I find myself tracing out a mostly familiar route and often starting from the same car park as before.

While the car park/start point would remain unchanged, on this occasion, I decided to venture a little further from the known paths.

#Walk1000Miles – January 2017

Already, the first month of this new year now lies behind us!

dscn9200

Having amassed an impressive total of nine-hundred-and-sixty-five miles for the whole of 2016, I began January with the aim of exceeding the figure by the end of December.

Wellow Walk – December 2016

Sunday 18th December 2016

Wellow. A North East Somerset village that I seem to be visiting quite frequently. Before writing this post, I’ve already returned once this year and have plans to revisit the area on a group walk next month.

Post-My Black Mountains Triumph, this was a point where I saw an opportunity to cram in the miles and possibly get very close to the one-thousand miles mark. But primarily, this was going to be a pre-walk in order to investigate a few different footpaths and hopefully confirm a complete circuit for February.
