Leading on the Quantocks – October 2016

Saturday 29th October 2016

This walk was originally scheduled to take place seven-days earlier.

But, the symptoms of a bad cold began to develop within me between Wednesday and Thursday, leaving me feel quite weak, occasionally dizzy and physically less capable of leading a group up and over the Quantock Hills.

Quantock Hills Walk – October 2016

Sunday 2nd October 2016

Barely two-months from the end of the year and I was keen to get another walk submitted to Brunel, so that I could reach another personal goal of having led five walks in 2016. A feat I had not achieved since 2014.

There were many locations I could’ve chosen and a few ‘difficult’ pre-walks along the way… Once again, I found myself returning to the familiar Quantock Hills.

#Walk1000Miles – June 2016

I fear I’m going to be disappointed with my tally for the month that was June. It began so very well and I felt confident that I’d be able to break a century, with relative ease.

But in the second half of the month – and, what seems destined to continue in to July – we saw a large amount of rainfall among many grey days. Does anyone else remember the heatwave at the beginning of June?

Let’s take a look…

Saturday’s Group Walk

Saturday 18th June 2016

So, I’ve now led three walks so far this year, with the most recent one having been in the southern half of the Quantock Hills, four-days ago.

On Cothelstone Hill.

I’d like to point out that any photos featuring other people are not my own – they were taken by Jo, who happened to take them during the walk and uploaded them to the group’s Facebook page… From which, I stole them!

Instead of heading north towards Great Wood, as my finalised route would do; I turned immediately east towards Lydeard Hill.

Southern Quantocks Walk (Part 2) – April 2016

Saturday 23rd April 2016

This would be the decision-maker on whether or not my new-found return route to the car would register this figure-of-eight loop as a success.

Or was I headed for another succession of broken stiles, ploughed fields and overgrown vegetation? Let’s go back to the southern half of the Quantock Hills!

Southern Quantocks Walk (Part 1) – April 2016

Saturday 23rd April 2016

Another month in 2016 and another opportunity to complete a circular walk within the southern region of the Quantock Hills.

Like each of my others previously; this one began in Broomfield, with the plentiful of parking opportunities at Fyne Court. So, let’s skip ahead to join the walk at the top of Cothelstone Hill, one-hour and almost three-miles in.

Quantocking in Winter (Part 2)

Setting off from the summit of Wills Neck, it was time now to make an eastward return towards Broomfield.

From here, there was only one question on my mind… Could I complete this walk without encountering any obstructed footpaths?
