Mendip Hills – December 2016

Friday 30th December 2016

This would be my final proper walk for 2016 and I’d decided to keep it as a local one.

I headed for the Burrington Ham car park towards the top of Burrington Combe and, with an early start close to 9am, I was soon heading off, over the road to cross Black Down.

Exploring Bredon Hill (Part 2)

Wednesday 28th December 2016

With one ascent already behind me on this walk, I knew that I still had some climbing to do before I would reach the desired summit of Bredon Hill.

Having lost height en route to the village of Bredon’s Norton, that time was about to come.

Exploring Bredon Hill (Part 1)

Wednesday 28th December 2016

Last night, I sat down at my computer to begin writing this walk. While in the process of editing and re-arranging my selection of photos, I managed to somehow ‘lose’ said photos (possibly with a keyboard shortcut). They weren’t anywhere to be found; not even in the Recycle Bin.

I hadn’t already uploaded them to Facebook either. My one saving grace was that they were on Instagram – it took about half an hour taking many screenshots, cropping each image and then uploading them from my phone but, I now feel confident in being able to begin writing and I hope the effort is appreciated.

Spending: September to December 2016

Christmas Eve and officially the start of my ten-day break from the ‘necessary’ routine of work.

Of course, I was going to spend the day outdoors and I settled upon the idea of starting in Priddy and heading west to revisit Draycott Sleights Nature Reserve.

Already, the first month of this new year now lies behind us!

Having amassed an impressive total of nine-hundred-and-sixty-five miles for the whole of 2016, I began January with the aim of exceeding the figure by the end of December.

Wellow Walk – December 2016

Sunday 18th December 2016

Wellow. A North East Somerset village that I seem to be visiting quite frequently. Before writing this post, I’ve already returned once this year and have plans to revisit the area on a group walk next month.

Post-My Black Mountains Triumph, this was a point where I saw an opportunity to cram in the miles and possibly get very close to the one-thousand miles mark. But primarily, this was going to be a pre-walk in order to investigate a few different footpaths and hopefully confirm a complete circuit for February.

‘The Cat’s Back’ (Part 2)

Saturday 17th December 2016

In Part 1, I had reached the summit of Hay Bluff, with its trig point imprinted with the image of the Welsh Dragon.

It was slightly too soon for me to stop for lunch and I was looking to rejoin the Offa’s Dyke Path heading south, before a descending to cross the Olchon Valley.
