Picket Planters (Part 4)

Remember that video series I started on making a pair of Picket Planters? Yeah, that was some time ago, back in the summer, now… After Part 3, I just sort of trailed off, couldn’t find the time to sit down and edit the outstanding [quantity, not quality!!] video clips on my computer. So, it’s been a very long while but, I am relieved to reveal that the fourth instalment in this series is now available for your viewing pleasure:

In this episode, I assemble both of the end frames, in preparation for a larger glue-up, next time.

Actually, it went live last night so, I apologise for the delay in bringing this information to your attention, if you weren’t already aware. There’s plenty of footage available for Part 5 and, as much as I’m hoping I’ll be able to wrap this series up with that, I can almost clearly see a sixth part to this on-going tale just over the horizon!

If the video isn’t working for you hear, please try clicking this link, which will take you directly to the page on YouTube.

Thank you for watching.

Thinking About Edge Sanders…

While I do believe that my workshop is fairly close to being ‘complete’, as far as having all the right tools and machinery goes, I’m also open to the idea that certain pieces of equipment may need to be upgraded, as your woodworking progress. One can certainly have ‘enough’ tools but, that should never come to mean that he who has all the tools should stop thinking about buying new tools altogether…

Quite recently, I’ve been thinking along the lines of introducing a small edge sander or linisher in to my workshop, as a replacement for the disc sander.

Cutting Boards Video (Part 2)

Video no.2 in this three-part series on making end-grain cutting boards is now available to view both here and over on YouTube.

As before, I welcome all comments and opinions. If you’d rather e-mail in private, instead of posting publicly either here on this blog or on the other site then, I’m happy for you to do that (just follow the link in the right-hand column).

Part 3 isn’t too far away and, who knows, you may even hear my voice! 😀

(…Just about!!)

Thanks for watching. Hope you’re enjoying this. More to  come!

DVD Wall Shelf (Part 2)

It seems that I’ve skipped an update, here, on the simple DVD wall shelf that I began working on two-weeks ago – my apologies for that. After roughing out all the timber for the four shelves and two sides last time, I was still left with a small collection of cupped boards. This cupping wasn’t as severed as with the 10in-wide boards I’d started with but, I knew it was still likely to cause me some problems later on.

Bench Repair (Part 3)

Having cut and cleaned out all the mortises in my previous session working on this bench, my next job was to cut the tenons on each end of the seven slats. With relatively small components like this, I like to use my faithful router sled to gauge the thickness by making a single pass across each face.
