Time to Climb

This Sunday will be a day I’ve been waiting for, as I’ll finally get to lead the walking group on one of my personal favourite routes. Don’t get me wrong; I enjoyed each of the previous two walks I’ve led but the ascent up to Crook Peak has been a firm favourite since my first journey almost a year ago. I look forward to seeing how the others take to it, especially for those who may not have even heard of it (several members of this group are relatively new to Bristol). I’ve extended the original route I found by about 5 miles, if my memory serves me correctly. I hope the extra climbs and the endeavour aren’t too much.

Once again, Brent Knoll Hill fell immediately in to my sights upon reaching the car park.

Last Sunday, in spite of a sore throat and a runny nose, I dragged myself down to Axbridge so that I could confidently complete the second half of this route, after a little mis-direction on my first attempt to negotiate the woodlands west of Cheddar Gorge

Yandles Spring Show – 5th-6th April 2013

Earlier today, I did indeed complete the drive south down to Yandles for the annual spring woodworking show (they also hold an autumn show in September, in case you didn’t know.

While I was there, I made the brave effort to get my camera out and to shoot a brief sequence of video clips that would give an impression of what’s available at one of these shows. It was a big step for me and I had to overcome a lot of anxiety to simply get my camera out of its bag, whilst walking alone through such a heavily occupied arena. Above, you can see the results of my work and an hour’s worth of editing this evening.

There’s a little more detail to follow if you read on below this line but I do welcome your comments, thoughts, opinions and feedback. 🙂

Writing Challenge: ‘Map It Out’

In an effort to keep the content flowing on this blog even without the regular passing of wood, I’m going to try my hand at some of the writing challenges that the kind folks at WordPress kindly lend us for inspiration.

This one’s specifically a writing challenge and they regularly feature others on a daily basis too. They also include at least one photo challenge each week, if that fits in better with your creativity.

Today, I’m going to ‘map out’ the locations of some of the solo walks I have enjoyed in 2012. They’re all fairly local so, you might get an idea of where I live. Unfortunately, I’m currently unable to embed an image of the map on this site (anyone?) so, for the time being at least, you’ll have to click here please to be redirected to Google Maps.

In time, I also hope to be able to share some of the may photos I have taken with you (I’m a bad blogger…). I was thinking about posting a list of each place with an accompanying image but, after a first Monday back at work, I’m too tired… 😛

Thank you.
