Ludlow Castle

Thursday 25th August 2016

It was raining lightly by the time I arrived at the entrance to Ludlow Castle. I can’t remember whether or not I was expecting a ruin of a building to offer some form of shelter but I know I wasn’t prepared to pass on the opportunity to visit and explore.

Wroxeter Roman City

Wednesday 24th August 2016

During my time in Shropshire, I felt an urge to do and see as much as possible, within the four-nights and five-days of my stay.

Having walked around and explored Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd (see my previous two posts), I then drove north – away from the camp site – to explore an attraction that is currently maintained by English Heritage.

Visiting Ironbridge

Tuesday 23rd August 2016

My second full day in Shropshire and, after a day of walking, I decided to take this Tuesday a bit more easily, with a tourist-style visit to Ironbridge, which was no more than an hour’s drive from the camp site.

Powis Castle and Garden

Sunday 21st August 2016

It was the day of my arrival in Shropshire, ahead of a four-night stay at a campsite towards the south of the region. My SatNav had been destined for an afternoon of tent pitching, from the moment I left home.

In the mean time, I’m close to completing my summary of this visit to Dyrham Park, a couple of weeks ago.

With my visit to and exploration of the church complete, I headed back outside with my stomach grumbling for lunch.

Visiting Dyrham Park (Part 2)

Saturday 5th December 2015

Today, I’ve been and visited my second National Trust property of the month. But I’m saving that for a future series of posts as, right now, I intend to continue writing about my trip to Dyrham Park, nearly a fortnight ago.

Dunster Castle

Sunday 21st June 2015

On the return from my visit to Arlington Court, the day after completing half the Exmoor Perambulation; I decided to stop off at Dunster Castle, which was another National Trust property I was almost certain to pass on the long drive home.

I’d intended to make this stop all along; I only hadn’t anticipated to have spent so much time in Barnstaple. From there, West Somerset’s medieval village of Dunster was still a good hour away, yet only have that distance from the camp site I’d vacated in the morning.
