Visiting Tyntesfield (Part 2)

Wednesday 16th December 2015

At the end of Part 1, I was waving goodbye to the house after experiencing the wonderful Victorian Christmas theme inside. Now, I was out and about to explore the rest of the estate.

Christmas Pudding Brownie

I do hope everyone has had and is still enjoying a good and healthy Christmas, wherever you are.

Within the spirit of the season, I decided to bake something for the big day. Inspired by this recipe, I decided to have a go at a ‘Christmas pudding’ but with a chocolate brownie twist… Tesco also produced a video, which first attracted me to the idea and you can find a link to that at the foot of this post.

Visiting Tyntesfield (Part 1)

Wednesday 16th December 2015

Tyntesfield would be the other local property that I’d been driving past for many years without having stopped off to pay the estate a visit. I’d only previously stopped here once to pick someone up and, long before I became a National Trust member, I used to drive past the entrance almost daily on my commute to or from work.

Knowing where the car park was and, with a day off work last week; I made an effort to ensure I could tick this one off my list. From what I’d read online, there was somewhat of a Christmas theme overtaking the house to look out for as well.

Sunday, Sand and Winter Sun

Welcome to 2015!

I spent almost every minute of daylight yesterday crossing the Mendip Hills and arrived back home shortly after darkness had fallen. You’ll get to read about that saga on another day. For now, I’d like to go back to Sunday when I took a short trip down to Sand Bay.

Heart-Shaped Bandsaw Boxes

On the stroke of Christmas Day (literally, as midnight arrived to close Christmas Eve), this video was uploaded to YouTube. It’s had a great reception already; tallying up to more than 850 views already, which is great by my own standards. But I’d like to bring it to you attention today, as many people have will have been busy over the Christmas period. This is mainly for those who haven’t already seen it.

If the link above won’t work, please click here – and don’t forget to subscribe! 😉

It took about 90 minutes to upload for a 13 minute video. It’s a standard time for my work (in HD quality, 720p) but it always seems excessive. I’ve noticed other woodworkers and YouTubers who are seemingly able to upload videos in a matter of minutes… I guess it’s down to the power of your computer and its processors. I’ve recently got myself re-established with broadband and the speeds are pretty good. If I come to do this more frequently, I would have to look at upgrading my laptop then.

So, I made two of these boxes, as I’ve developed a knack for making two of everything this past year. One went to a friend for their birthday in August; the other remains ‘on display’ in my home, alongside the spare yin-and-yang box – which will also appear in video format sometime in 2014!

Thanks for reading and for watching. As always, I welcome all feedback.

Chest of Drawers

All I’ve heard on the radio for the past two days has been an endless string of adverts for all the post-Christmas bargains to be had on the high street and online. I’m always sceptical but one thing I’m certain of is that I do not need a brand-new TV with all the latest add-ons and features! Yesterday, I braved the wind, rain and hailstones to pick up a bargain of my own, which I spotted through a local Gumtree ad.

After six-weeks of living out of black bags, I’m finally able to say that I have acquired a chest of drawers for my bedroom!

Christmas 2013

I do hope that everyone has had a great Christmas so far. I don’t like to think of it as being ‘all over’, even two-days after the main event but 2014 is only moving closer. Despite not feeling at all ‘festive’ in the run up and not desiring anything more than the usual additions to my annual chocolate stash; for me personally, this has been one of the best Christmases. In a word, it has been UNIQUE

Christmas is Coming!

It’s that time of the year again and I’d really like to have a few small gifts coming out of the workshop very soon! There hasn’t been a lot of other action going on lately but, you may recall that I was looking at making a couple of boxes in a recent post.

“I don’t waste wood – only time!”

After work yesterday, I wrapped up warm, braved the cold and went out to sort through this pile of offcuts I’d accumulated weeks ago.
