Baking Brownies

Sometimes, a very good recipe can emerge from right under your nose…

I’ve spent a lot of hours in the past, searching for the ideal recipe to suit one of many occasions. You see, this recipe for baking brownies was found on the side of a bag of Lidl’s dark brown sugar!

Fat-Less Sponge Cake

My mum’s birthday was approaching recently and I’d decided that, for the second year running, I wanted to bake her a cake. Conscious of the fact that not everyone likes to eat as much cake as I do, I decided to try a fat-less sponge cake recipe from Sarah Flower’s book for the Halogen Oven.

When Biscuits Go Bad

As far as baking goes, I’ve always seen biscuits as perhaps the simplest of options available. Cakes can sink and sag but, being relatively flat, there isn’t a lot that can go wrong with a biscuit, is there?

This was my first attempt from a Flora recipe for Easy Cinnamon and Raisin Cookies.

Baking for Brownie Points

To complement the walk I led last Sunday (and, coincidentally, wrote about in my previous post), I decided to do some baking, as it was very much appreciated by a large group on another walk in April.

Turning 30

It’s already been three-days since my latest ‘milestone’ birthday. I’ve a growing list of food and DIY-related things to write about and share but, for this one, instead of writing about ‘near-mid-life-crisis-thoughts’, I’ve decided to look at what I received on the day and to ponder what, if anything, this might tell you about where I am in my life?!

Carrot Cake Success!

This was my first baking effort of 2015 and, in case that’s not enough of a feat on its own; it also happens to have become the best cake that I have so far produced in almost one year of Halogen Oven trial-and-error!

Ready, steady, bake!

You’ll have to go to BBC Good Food if you’d like to see the recipe.

Baking Banana Bread

It wouldn’t be Christmas if there wasn’t a cake in the works!

While I’m not actually a huge fan of the traditional Christmas Cake (although, that’s not to imply that I would turn down the offer of a free slice), I decided to have a go at banana bread, using this recipe from BBC Good Food.
