#Walk1000Miles – May 2016
What happened to the month of May?!
Suddenly, it’s June. Yet, I’m fairly certain it was the end of April, only two weeks ago…
In that case, it’s time for a monthly review of my efforts in the Walk 1000 Miles challenge.
May was a great success, in which I achieved my first one-hundred-mile-month. I felt as though this would become the initiative to set my momentum going.
But for a week of illness, coupled with lower back problems; I might easily have broken the one-hundred mile barrier. Perhaps, just maybe… I might’ve pushed close to one-hundred-and-fifty miles for May.
Taking all of that in to account, I’m not at all disappointed by this past month’s tally and, moving forward, I see no reason why I cannot exceed that figure for June. This Sunday should be a huge booster, with an annual thirty-mile walking event set to take place.
15 miles – Leading my Chew, Two, Three walk – plus an evening at Long Wood near Cheddar.
4 miles – an evening walk around Wrington (longer than usual).
15 miles – Nyland Hill to Glastonbury Tor
5.5 miles – Another local walk that took in Goblin Combe.
11 miles – Lilstock to Blue Anchor (Somerset Coast Path challenge)
7.5 miles – Black Down on the Mendip Hills
13.5 miles – Blue Anchor to Porlock (Somerset Coast Path challenge)
Total = 71.5 miles
Plus: 12 miles of short evening walks.
Total for May 2016 = 83.5 miles
But for that “week off” through illness, I reckon I would’ve broken another century. Still, I’m not at all disappointed with the tally, given that I’ve have still exceeded the eighty-mile mark, when I struggled to get over fifty per month at the start of the year.
Current total for 2016 = 346.75 miles
