Drum Sanders from Poland?

This is something that caught my eye recently, while browsing for drum sanders on eBay. Don’t worry, I haven’t placed any bids or made any offers on anything since my last purchase! It appears as though a firm in Poland is prepared to ship their possibly un-branded drum sanders over to those of us in the UK (for a shipping cost of £70).

These models look slightly different to the ones currently distributed by Brimarc in the UK and sold by the likes of Axminster. They remind me of the Performax drum sanders that also occasionally pop up on that auction site.

So, in that respect, the prices offered in the two eBay listings look very competitive. I’d assume they’re still manufactured in the Far East so, it would seem strange that these sanders are available in at least one other part of Europe but, not here in the UK.

£599 for a 405mm drum sander and only £680 for a machine with a width capacity of 560mm. It doesn’t say whether or not you can remove the end brackets so that you can sand wider boards and sheets, one half at a time (as you can on the open-ended Jet models). One issue of read of those models is that the ‘head’ of the machine can move out of alignment, without support at both ends. Still, it looks as though you get a lot for your money.

It also looks as though people (maybe only one person) have been submitting their ‘best offers’ so, I like to think there’s a good chance that someone in the UK will received one of these mysterious machines in the not-too-distant future and, provided they’re internet-savvy, we might even be able to read about it for ourselves.

This same seller also advertises planer/thicknessers, drilling machines and more in their online shop. Again, the prices are competitive, against what we have available direct to us in Great Britain.

Personally, I think I’d rather stick with one of the ‘known’ brands, at least for the time being, until we can learn more. It’s hard to tell just how easy it would be to get either of these machines serviced, should a problem occur. Even obtaining the correct spare parts could be an issue. Details are sketchy on just what size loadings these sanders take.

Thanks for reading and, if you do happen to buy one – do please share it with us!! 😉

Very similar to ones branded and sold by Carba-tec in Australia.. actually not to bad.. I had one for many years and on-sold it to purchase a Jet 16/32… a good friend has just purchased one and uses it regularly..

I welcome your thoughts.
