Magnetic Knife Block Video

If you’re subscribed to my YouTube channel then you’ll already know that I recently uploaded a video on the making of my magnetic knife block from last year. If you’ve noticed this upload appear twice in your subscription feed then it’s because I have re-uploaded the same video – in the first edition, I was made aware (by several viewers who left comments) that there was an issue with the narration running out of sync and beyond the end of the video footage; prolonging the length with an additional minute of black screen.

This has been corrected in the second upload. I’d like to leave the original video in its place because it’s already received a number of interactions. What I realised was that I made a mistake in recording and positioning the segments of narration before a final edit of the individual scenes – let that be a lesson to any other YouTubers or video-uploaders out there! It seems as though the strips of narration are not attached to the video timeline and so, as that shifts, the audio remains where it was.

So, from now on, this is the kind of schedule I’ll be following when editing a video for uploading. It is a lengthy process and I like to save as many individual versions of the video in as many states as you see listed below:

1. Initial edit and trimming of scenes.

2. Adding transitions between scenes.

3. Playing through the video to check and increasing the play-speed of any scenes where appropriate.

4. Recording and adding the narration.

5. Adjusting the sound levels between scenes and narration before a final check and then, the uploading!

Thanks for reading and I hope you like it. :-)

Every Lidl Helps

This weekend, I can proudly say that I have completed my first ever shop in a local Lidl store! The prospect of ‘budget grocery shopping‘ is something I debated only a couple of weeks ago and, at a new age (personally) and with the summer months ahead, I decided that this was a good time to go.

Always Walking

You know me; I like to walk. As much as I also enjoy writing, I’ve found it hard to keep you up to date with my walks of the past fortnight, because there have been three of them! This post is going to briefly summarise two of them, because you’ve (hopefully) seen much of each route before the third walk, being a new one to me, is going to require more effort and dedication before you see it published.

No, that is not a selfie!

So, starting off one day before my 29th birthday; I took a routine climb up to Crook Peak, two-months ahead of the 30-mile Mendip Challenge.

New Clutter

While it may’ve been my birthday eight-days ago, that Monday was also the day in which I decided to clear out and close the door on my first workshop for the final time. A previous weekend had seen the majority of my tools and kit tucked away in to self storage. But I’d left myself with a floor-covering off odds-and-sodds to gather or give-away. Somehow, prolonging the inevitable and procrastinating would make it feel like I wasn’t having to let go just yet…

Welcome home…

Because of such of undesirable habits, I found myself with nowhere else to dump these items in such short notice and so, here they are, on the carpet of the one-bedroom flat within which I reside.

My First Washer/Dryer

After four months of frequent to my mother’s home, with black bags full of my dirty laundry; I jumped in and bought myself a washer/dryer this week. I’ve taken that extra step closer towards independence. For the very first time, I own a washing machine and this post is going to involve my initial impressions and remarks from its first use.

One brand-new washing machine; one basket-full of dirty laundry.

TecTake Portable Mini Washing Machine and Dryer – it arrived within three working days from Germany and, as I was out walking, it was kindly taken in by a neighbour for me to collect later and at my own convenience.

Cake Day

You probably weren’t to know, as I haven’t been shouting or raving about it this year, but Monday 31st was my 29th birthday. Yes, just one last year to go before I kiss my younger days goodbye! To celebrate this occasion, I took a couple of days off work and set myself the intention of baking a cake on one of them. It seemed to go hand-in-hand with my newly-found interest in cooking… And I do love cake!

This is Wiltshire

My destination for last Sunday’s walk wasn’t going to be anywhere other than Wiltshire. Initially, my sights were set on a Brunel-led walk around an unknown area close to Longleat. Before heeding the weather forecast on Saturday, I was lining up a trip to Lacock, which is surely soon to follow in April. But I wanted to save that one for a clear and consistently sunny day and so, instead, I elected to follow a walk titled the Wessex Ridgeway.

Book Box Balls-Up

In my last update, I believe the pair of book boxes I was making were edging close to completion (or, at least, the finishing stage). That was over two-months ago and, even though I’ve since effectively closed the door on that workshop for the time being, I can tell you that I worked on three separate (and a-little-bit-secret) items during the closing weeks.

Today’s update concludes the book box project for the time being.
